Dr. Javaid I. Sheikh is the Dean and Professor of Psychiatry and Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. Having established the Institute for Population Health (IPH) in 201 2 at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Dr. Sheikh conceived and implemented comprehensive programs to advance health promotion and disease prevention in Qatar, beginning with school-age children. In early 2024, the IPH organized the first Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance Leadership Forum at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, which resulted in the “Doha Declaration,”

which delineates the principles and practices of lifestyle medicine to enhance the health and well-being of diverse populations worldwide. In 201 6, Dr. Sheikh joined forces with National Academy of Medicine in the United States, to create Innovations in Global Health Professions Education (IGHPE), a globally interconnected forum that provides an international platform for health professions education.
Before joining Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Dr. Sheikh built a distinguished career at Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a tenured professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, associate dean for veterans’ affairs, and was board chair of the Palo Alto Institute for Research and Education.
