Prof. Asmaa Ali Al-Thani

Prof. Asmaa Al-Thani is the Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences at Qatar University and a Professor of Virology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar. She is the Founding Dean of the College of Health Sciences (2016) and Founding Director of the Biomedical Research Center (2014). She has also played key national leadership roles, including CEO of the Qatar Precision Health Institute, Vice Chair of the Qatar Biobank Board, Chair of the National Qatar Genome Committee, and leader in establishing the National Reference Laboratory COVID-19 Unit.
Additionally, she is the founding chair of the Empower Generation Consortium, which aims to strengthen national capacity in health sciences and support future generations pursuing health-related careers.
Prof. Al-Thani is an active researcher with more than 147 peer- reviewed publications and approximately 32 research grants. She is a member of the American Society for Microbiology. Research Award (2015).
